News Corp. Co-Chief Operating Officer Chase Carey resigned after the company canceled plans to spin off the Sky Global Networks satellite television unit that Carey headed as a separate, publicly traded company. Carey will remain a director and a consultant through 2002 at the media company controlled by Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. said. The 48-year-old executive will not be replaced.
