Prayers at School Board Meetings Ruled Out
- Share via
Paradise Unified School District board meetings no longer will open with a prayer after teachers and parents convinced trustees that the Christian-based prayers made some people uncomfortable.
Trustees also voted to not replace the prayers with a “generic” prayer or moment of silence.
A district teacher brought the issue to the board in October. But trustees did not fully respond to the request until May, when Teachers Assn. of Paradise President Tamara Connors wrote a letter on behalf of several teachers who wanted the practice stopped or changed to a non-denominational message.
