Taurasi Among Nation’s Best

Connecticut’s undefeated women’s basketball team had all five of its starters honored as All-Americans by the Associated Press on Tuesday, including sophomore guard Diana Taurasi, a former Chino Don Lugo High standout.
Taurasi, who averaged 14.4 points and 5.2 assists for the 33-0 Huskies, made the second team.
Point guard Sue Bird received the most votes from a nationwide media panel and was Connecticut’s only first-team selection.
Swin Cash made the second team and Asjha Jones was on the third team. The Huskies’ fifth starter, Tamika Williams, received honorable mention.
Other first-team selections were Oklahoma’s Stacey Dales, a repeat pick, Alana Beard of Duke, Chantelle Anderson of Vanderbilt and LaToya Thomas of Mississippi State.
Stanford’s Nicole Powell was a second-team pick. Other honorable mentions selections were Arizona State’s Amanda Levens, Oregon State’s Felicia Ragland and Oregon’s Shaquala Williams.
