Group Will Pony Up for Stuffed Rabbits

WASHINGTON — To discourage people from giving live bunnies as Easter gifts, an Alexandria, Va., rabbit welfare organization is planning to give away more than 200 stuffed toy rabbits.
“People think of animals like they do toys,” said Vineeta Anand, manager of Friends of Rabbits. “People get them as a distraction for their children, but they are live things and require a long-term commitment.
The organization, funded solely by donors, has put up its own money to buy the toys, she said.
