Police shot and wounded a man after a pursuit Thursday night in South Los Angeles after he tried to draw a weapon, authorities said.
The unidentified man was shot near 57th Street and Wilton Place after a car chase that ended when the driver allegedly crashed the vehicle on the front lawn of a home, said Los Angeles Police Capt. Ken Hillman.
As the man climbed out of the car, he went for a handgun in his waistband, police said. They said a weapon was recovered at the scene.
Police did not say why they tried to pull the man over just before 7:30 p.m. But when the man sped off, police chased him. The suspect’s car stopped at one point and a passenger got out and fled on foot, police said.
The driver started to get out of the car as well, but then got back in and drove off again, police said. The passenger was arrested a short time later.
