The state Senate on Thursday narrowly passed a bill to extend the bicycle safety helmet law to children under 18 who ride skateboards, inline and roller skates, and scooters. The parents of violators would be fined $25 per offense.
Without debate and with little discussion, the bill, SB 1924, by Sen. Jack O’Connell (D-San Luis Obispo) was approved on a 21-15 vote, the bare margin required. The Assembly will take it up next.
