From Times Staff Reports
Thousand Oaks has joined a national program to collect and recycle more than 5,000 pairs of athletic shoes.
The old sneakers, along with defective pairs donated by Nike, will be ground up and turned into surfaces for athletic courts. Local waste companies G.I. Industries and Gold Coast Recycling are participating in the Reuse-A-Shoe program.
For more information, visit the city’s Web site at www.toaks.org.
