NOTABLE
* Jennifer Davis of No. 8 Whittier California defeated La Habra Sonora in a doubleheader, 1-0 and 4-0, striking out 30. In a losing effort in the first game, Christine Farrell had 18 strikeouts.
* Cary Baker finally got his 400th career victory in Fountain Valley’s 2-1 win over Irvine Northwood. It came after a three-game losing streak that dropped the Barons (9-6) out of the top 25. Baker is 400-195-2 in 22 seasons at Fountain Valley.
* Center fielder Tara Henry threw out the potential game-tying run at the plate to end No. 3 Orange El Modena’s 3-2 victory over California.
COMEBACKS
* Anaheim Canyon was in danger of losing its sixth game in a row, falling behind in the first inning against Riverside King. But Heather Slettvet squeezed home the game-tying run in the seventh and Lisa Geer followed with a three-run double to give the Comanches a 9-6 victory.
LOOKING AHEAD
* Corona Santiago pitcher Taryne Mowatt could get a shot at No. 1 Garden Grove Pacifica at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in the finals of the Santa Ana Foothill tournament at Hillview School in Santa Ana. That’s contingent on Pacifica and its standout, Brittany Weil, outdueling Davis and California at 9 a.m.
