Two Teachers Placed on Leave Over War Posters

Two teachers at Albuquerque’s Highland High School were placed on leave for refusing to remove war-related student artwork from their classrooms.
Geoffrey Barrett, who teaches history and current events, said the art carried antiwar and pro-war messages and was part of a class assignment. Allen Cooper said one sign in his classroom read “No War Mr. Cooper.” It was written by a student who had relatives killed in U.S.-led bombings in Afghanistan, he said.
“This is mostly a violation of the students’ rights to have a voice,” Barrett said.
