Questions, Please

I am more than amused at government spokespersons like White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who end their daily press briefings with, “Now I’d be happy to take your questions.” At a recent press conference, Secretary of State Colin Powell even went so far as to say he’d be “delighted” to take questions from the media. As a recovering journalist still haunted by ghosts of conferences past, I can only presume that it doesn’t take much to make some people happy.
