8 Westerners Held in Bombings Are Freed

Eight Westerners jailed in Saudi Arabia over a series of bombings in the capital that killed a Briton were freed and deported. Seven arrived in London and the eighth in his native Belgium.
Canadian William Sampson and Briton Alexander Mitchell had been sentenced to death in October 2001, while five other Britons and the Belgian were given prison sentences. A sixth Briton was never charged. The Britons’ relatives had often said that the charges were false.
