‘Shameless exhibit’
In the name of art and morality, art lovers should boycott the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s exhibit “Old Masters, Impressionists and Moderns,” because a major part consists of stolen property -- Impressionist paintings seized from two Russian collectors after the Revolution by the Communists (“She Works the System,” by David Holley, July 27).
No American museum should traffic in purloined property. Would LACMA show and profit from paintings seized from private owners, and never returned, by Saddam Hussein or Hitler? If not, what difference is there, morally, in this shameless exhibit?
