Crash Into Tree Kills Passenger

An 18-year-old driver slammed into a eucalyptus tree in Laguna Niguel early Monday, killing his passenger and critically injuring himself, police said.
Mamdouh Youssef of Aliso Viejo was taken to Mission Regional Hospital and Medical Center. His passenger, Ryan Harris, 19, of Laguna Niguel, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the two were traveling east on Crown Valley Parkway near the Street of the Golden Lantern about 1:40 a.m. when Youssef’s BMW Z3 crashed head-on into the tree.
An investigation was continuing, authorities said.
