Teen Hurt in Car Accident Dies

A Thousand Oaks boy hurt in a car crash this week has died of head injuries, officials said.
James Ryan Delaney, 17, died at Simi Valley Hospital late Wednesday, two days after the car he was riding in hit a tree.
The driver, Carl Otto Hallbauer, 43, of Van Nuys, a family friend, was released Wednesday from Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. Hallbauer was driving the 1995 Chevrolet, registered to the Delaney family, when he lost control, deputies said. The car slid and hit a tree in the median.
Hallbauer has not been charged, but deputies said alcohol and excessive speed may have contributed to the accident.
