Music Industry Can’t Blame Just Piracy
The exiting Recording Industry Assn. of America CEO is quoted as saying that “because of piracy fewer artists get signed now and good people are losing their jobs” (“Key Music Industry Crusader to Resign,” Jan. 23).
A defender of the major labels to the end, indeed.
Maybe she could mention another reason or two that fewer artists are getting deals such as Virgin Records paying $50 million to sign Mariah Carey and then $30 million to get rid of her.
Or maybe the $1-million salary Hilary Rosen receives.
Or maybe the fact that good people are in fact losing their jobs and all the incompetents keep theirs or get better ones.
