John Marshall High School won the Academic Decathlon Super Quiz on Saturday night, beating 58 campuses in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Teams from Taft and Los Angeles high schools tied for second place in the game-show-style Super Quiz at UCLA. This year’s subject was oceanography.
“We’re ecstatic. We’ve been studying 15 hours a day for this since August,” said Marshall team member Terry Colberg, 17.
The Super Quiz is the last of 10 oral and written tests in the annual Academic Decathlon.
L.A. Unified’s overall winning school will be announced Thursday and advance to the statewide Academic Decathlon, to be held in March. The winning school from that event will compete for the national title in April.
