Government Frees Kashmiri Separatist

India has freed an ailing senior Kashmiri separatist leader detained eight months ago under an anti-terrorism law.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani, 73, accused of funding militant groups, was freed Saturday. Geelani denies the charge.
Abdul Ghani Bhat, chairman of the All Party Hurriyat Conference, an umbrella group of separatist supporters, praised Geelani’s release but stressed that India and Pakistan must hold talks to resolve the conflict over Kashmir, claimed by both.
