A U.S. Border Patrol agent has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into a shooting that wounded a motorist near the U.S.-Mexico border.
The agent, whose name was not released, said he had seen several suspected undocumented immigrants get into the man’s car, which was parked on a freeway onramp near the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The agent confronted the driver, and some of the occupants got out. As the agent was arresting them, the driver drove toward him, Border Patrol officials said.
