Toxics Report Prompts Demand to Clean Bay
- Share via
Two environmental groups Monday asked state water quality regulators to address toxic contamination in Newport Bay and San Diego Creek.
In a petition to the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board, Defend the Bay and the Natural Resources Defense Council demanded that the state adopt pollution reduction measures for Newport Bay that were recommended by the federal government two years ago.
Environmentalists are concerned about a preliminary study by the county Health Care Agency that found elevated levels of DDT and PCBs in a wide variety of fish from the bay.
