Files containing the bail bond applications of about 200 people were found in a cardboard box on top of a trash bin, a newspaper reported.
The box was found in mid-March by a couple who wanted the old file folders, the Salinas Californian reported. The documents contained photographs, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, addresses, bank account information, telephone numbers, credit card numbers and endorsed vehicle titles.
Carrie Beckstein, spokeswoman for the California Department of Insurance, said no specific code or regulation specified the manner in which companies disposed of records.
