Antimissile System Must Have Options

I agree that we must protect our commercial airliners from surface-to-air attacks (“In Case of Unfriendly Skies,” Jan. 25).
However, I have one question of great concern to me: What would happen if we had another 9/11-type incident and found it necessary to shoot down a “defendable” airliner?
I certainly hope that such a scenario is provided for in the development of any such antimissile system for commercial use.
