A Bitter Pill to Swallow

Re “Lobbyist Offers Make Jaws Drop,” Feb. 9: Indeed our jaws drop at the news that Rep. W.J. “Billy” Tauzin (R-La.) may be hired as a lobbyist by the drug industry that he worked so hard to benefit. Most Medicare recipients found the Medicare prescription drug bill to be working against them instead of for them. Indeed, the bill was written for the benefit of the drug companies and the HMOs. It would be interesting for the public to know what this upstanding civil servant will get in his retirement from Congress and what his health benefits will be.
