Khoo Teck Puat, 86; Billionaire Was Richest Man in Singapore

Khoo Teck Puat, 86, Singapore’s richest man, died Saturday in a Singapore hospital of a heart attack.
Born in Malaysia, Khoo amassed a fortune estimated at $2.6 billion. Last year he was cited by Forbes magazine as the world’s 137th wealthiest person.
Khoo made his money in hotels and banking. He owned the Goodwood Group of boutique hotels in Singapore and London.
The widower and father of 14 also was the largest single shareholder of Britain’s Standard Chartered Bank.
