Woman Dies After Fall at Mardi Gras Party

A woman who fell 20 feet during a Mardi Gras party at the Superdome in New Orleans died during surgery, officials said.
Maxine Gartman, 49, of Bulverde, Texas, was standing on her front-row chair on a spectator platform when she fell over a railing, Superdome spokesman Bill Curl said. Police said it appeared to be an accident.
The platform had been inspected by fire officials before the party, Curl said.
Gartman’s death was the second connected to the week of festivities leading up to Mardi Gras.
