Activist Held in Hit-and-Run Accident

Community activist Najee Ali was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run Monday after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident the night before on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.
Ali, the executive director of Project Islamic HOPE, was driving east in a westbound lane at about 11:30 p.m. when he crashed head-on into another car, LAPD spokesman Jason Lee said.
The other driver, in her 50s, suffered cuts on her hands and face.
Ali ran from the scene and into the Magic Johnson Theaters, where he was arrested, Lee said. Ali, 41, remained in the LAPD’s Southwest Division jail Monday evening in lieu of $50,000 bail, Lee said.
The activist, whose given name is Ronald Todd Eskew, has been outspoken about a number of issues over the years. He most recently criticized the lack of a conviction in the police-abuse case of Inglewood Officer Jeremy Morse.
