Use of Military Pilots to Fight Fires Planned

Military commanders and officials of the California Department of Forestry have taken the first step toward ensuring that Navy and Marine Corps helicopters can be used to fight brush fires outside military bases.
When Navy helicopter pilots volunteered to help fight the Cedar Fire in October, CDF officials said they lacked the proper training.
At a meeting this week, CDF officials offered to train military pilots in firefighting techniques.
