Lockwood Valley Brush Fire Damages 3 Structures

A brush fire in sparsely populated Lockwood Valley damaged three structures and charred 60 to 80 acres, fire officials in Ventura County said Wednesday.
The fire began at about 3:15 p.m. on Boy Scout Camp Road, Forest Service spokesman Joe Pasinato said.
Within hours, more than 330 firefighters had responded.
It was unclear whether the fire started in a structure and spread to nearby brush or whether it leaped to the structure from the surrounding vegetation, Pasinato said.
But winds were light, giving firefighters an advantage.
By 8 p.m., the fire was declared 40% contained, fire officials said.
Residents of surrounding areas who had evacuated were told they could return home.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
