Illegal Immigration and Taxpayers

Re: “Decent Pay Would Curb Illegal Immigration,” letters, Feb. 9: The president’s plan to match willing workers with willing employers where Americans will not do the work doesn’t hold water. The part of the equation that isn’t mentioned is the unfair matching of unwilling taxpayers with the huge burden of providing the equivalent of a better-than-middle-class lifestyle for these working poor immigrants and their issue, legal or otherwise.
Though our president expresses his compassion for those who violate our borders and ignores those who exploit them, he is mute on demonstrating the same compassion for those who have to pay the price for such idealism in more ways than money.
