Wave effect wins award

The tidal wave in “The Day After Tomorrow” was named the best single visual effect of the year at the third annual awards ceremony held by the Visual Effects Society.
Awards were presented Wednesday night in 19 categories covering film, TV, commercials, music videos and video games. Winners included “The Aviator” for best models and miniatures in a movie, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” for best performance by an animated character in a live-action film (for the hippogriff), and “Star Trek: Enterprise” for best visual effects in a broadcast TV series.
Director Robert Zemeckis was honored with a lifetime achievement award “for his enormous contributions to the visual effects industry and to filmmaking as a whole.”
