Six people were injured, three of them critically, when a car carrying a couple and their four children crashed into a truck parked on the shoulder of the Foothill Freeway in Sylmar on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The critically injured included a 60-year-old man who was working on the truck and two girls, one 14 and the other 16 months, who were in the car, officials said. Neither girl appeared to have been wearing a seat belt, they said.
Their mother and two other children in the car suffered minor injuries. Their father, who was not injured, was driving, investigators said.
The identities of those involved were not released.
