At least 12 people were killed and 17 injured when the roof of a closed Moscow market collapsed, and more people were trapped in the wreckage, emergency officials said.
It was unclear how many people were in the Bauman market at the time, an officer at Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said. Most of the victims were believed to be workers.
Moscow city prosecutor Anatoly Zuyev said up to 40 people could have been inside the market, the RIA-Novosti news agency reported.
Investigators believe heavy snow on the roof caused it to collapse, officials said.
