From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A man was shot and killed early Saturday in Compton, a city that, in 2005, has had the highest number of homicides within its borders in a decade.
The Sheriff’s Department released few details about the latest killing.
Officials said the man, who was not identified, was shot on East Oaks Street, west of Long Beach Boulevard, about 1:15 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The department would not disclose whether the latest killing was gang-related.
Sheriff Lee Baca has blamed the sharp increase in killings on a rise in gang violence.
