Biblical message not lost in translation

Re “Gospel According to Gullah,” Dec. 29
Thank you for the story on the translation of the Bible into Gullah. I clicked on the audio reading of the birth of Christ and found that I understood it perfectly, and I was deeply moved to hear the words in what I think of as Belizean Creole. The accent was a little funny (to Belizean ears), and the actor spoke slowly, but the words themselves, “Una wan know I done tell una da truth. Una wan fin da chile wrap up clothes weh bin tear inta strips an ih bin lay down ina trough,” brought the story to life so much better for me than all this talk about swaddling clothes, mangers and the like.
Los Angeles is home to a huge group of Belizeans -- it would be good if something in the story alerted them to this treat that is waiting for them as well.
