Argentine pianist awarded $300,000

Ingrid Fliter on Monday was named winner of the 2006 Gilmore Artist Award, given every four years to a pianist deemed to be exceptional.
The $300,000 award is given by the Michigan-based Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, a two-week event featuring jazz and classical artists. Fliter, 32, a native of Buenos Aires, will appear at this year’s festival, which runs from April 22 to May 7 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Previous winners have been Piotr Anderszewski, Leif Ove Andsnes, Ralf Gothoni and David Owen Norris.
