Bobby Jones made two key baskets down the stretch and two free throws with 16.5 seconds left to lead No. 10 Washington to a 69-65 victory over Oregon State Thursday night.
The Huskies, 15-2 overall, 4-2 Pacific 10, ended a two-game conference losing streak at home after they had a 32-game home winning streak stopped. It was their third consecutive conference victory.
But it wasn’t easy in a game where they didn’t shoot well and preseason All-America Brandon Roy struggled with eight points on three-for-nine shooting.
With the Huskies leading, 62-60, with 2:17 left, Jones put back an offensive rebound. Then, with two minutes to play, he scored on a fastbreak layup to make the score 66-60.
But the Beavers (9-8, 2-4) weren’t done. Chris Stephens scored on a layup before Wesley Washington stole the ball from Justin Dentmon at midcourt and scored with 1:15 left. He was fouled by Dentmon on the play and made the free throw to cut Washington’s lead to 66-65.
After Stephens missed a 17-foot shot, Washington rebounded and Jones was fouled with 16.5 seconds left. His two free throws gave the Huskies a 68-65 lead.

Mustafa Shakur made it 83-79 with another three-point play after a spectacular spin move with 1:14 left, and had four free throws down the stretch.
Matt Haryasz had a career-high 25 points for the Cardinal (7-7, 3-3).

California 88, Arizona State 58 -- The Golden Bears (10-5, 4-2) finished with a 24-2 run to end a two-game conference skid. The 30-point victory matched the biggest conference road margin in school history.
California dominated the game at the free-throw line, making 31 of 38 compared with 13 of 19 for the Sun Devils (7-9, 1-6). The 30-point loss tied for the worst home defeat in Coach Rob Evans’ eight seasons at Arizona State.

Oregon 52, Washington State 50 -- Malik Hairston made two three-point baskets in the final 12 seconds at Pullman, Wash., including the game-winning shot with four-tenths of a second left.
Jordan Kent led the Ducks (10-8, 4-2) with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Hairston scored 12 points in the Ducks’ third win in a row. It was also their ninth consecutive victory over the Cougars (9-6, 2-4).

Virginia 72, No. 24 North Carolina 68 -- The host Cavaliers (9-6, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) won their second consecutive conference game. The Tar Heels (10-4, 2-2) lost their second in a row.
