The City Council voted unanimously Monday to outlaw smoking at city parks and beaches, following the lead of several other coastal cities in Southern California.
Violators will be fined an unspecified amount. The council’s action came after presentations about the health effects of smoking and the problem of cigarette butts littering the city’s parks and beaches.
