I am a lifetime resident of various Los Angeles communities largely inhabited by African Americans (“What It Is. [And What It Was.]” by Lynell George, Oct. 8). George has captured the historic soul of these areas and their pockets of residents. She has presented an insightful word-picture of the rich and colorful diversity that existed then and exists here now.
