Devils stop Bruins, take over division lead

Brian Gionta scored the game-winner in his first game in almost a month, Jay Pandolfo had two goals and the New Jersey Devils took the lead in the Atlantic Division after a 3-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Sunday at East Rutherford, N.J.
The Devils’ fourth win in five games gave them 102 points and moved them a point ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the lead in the division and the No. 2 seeding overall in the East.
Detroit 4, Columbus 1 -- Tomas Holmstrom scored twice at Columbus, Ohio, and the Red Wings took the league lead in points with 108.
Carolina 4, Florida 3 -- Ray Whitney’s power-play goal 1:30 into overtime lifted the Hurricanes at Sunrise, Fla., and eliminated the Panthers from the playoff race.
Chicago 2, Edmonton 1 -- Patrick Sharp’s short-handed breakaway goal early in the third period ended a tie and lifted the Blackhawks at Chicago.
New York Rangers 7, Toronto 2 -- Sean Avery had two goals and an assist for the host Rangers.
