Davis makes amends and beats Cubs, 3-1

PHOENIX -- Doug Davis made sure his performance earlier in the week was just a bump in the road.
The Arizona left-hander scattered six hits and gave up one run in seven innings, leading the Diamondbacks to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night.
Davis (11-11) won for the sixth time in seven decisions -- his one loss came last Monday, when he lasted a season-low two innings and gave up six runs against Milwaukee.
“My control was a lot better and I wasn’t falling behind,” Davis said. “I was able to get ahead and stay ahead.”
Davis walked one and struck out eight, before Brandon Lyon came on to pitch the eighth. Jose Valverde worked a perfect ninth for his major league-leading 39th save in 45 chances.
