Hundreds of registered nurses picketed San Francisco Bay Area hospitals affiliated with Sutter Health on Thursday as a second strike in as many months got under way.
Representatives of the California Nurses Assn. said they expected up to 5,000 nurses to stay off the job at 13 hospitals through Saturday morning. A similar two-day walkout took place in October.
Hospital officials said they have brought in replacement nurses and that patient care will not be disrupted.
