It’s enough to make Andrew Lloyd Webber roll over in his grave -- that is, if he were dead.
A YouTube video (latimes.com/webber) from RedButton, producer of TV Offal’s “Honest Obituary” series, suggests the world might be better sans the prolific composer.
Certainly, Lloyd Webber’s death would reduce the risk of his writing a musical about it. And if you think that’s in bad taste, check out the rest of his mock obit. Among the “factoids”: “Along with ‘Cats,’ the composer also wrote ‘Gnats,’ as well as ‘Bats,’ a musical that cannot be heard by the human ear.” The piece also recalls Lloyd Webber charging that many of his “beautiful and original melodies” had been “shamelessly stolen by dead classical composers.”
Unkind? Perhaps. But then, maybe these critics just don’t know how to love him.
