* Pepperdine (1-4) at Cal State Bakersfield (1-4), 2 p.m. -- The Waves are beginning a stretch of 10 consecutive road games, which is not good news since they are averaging 90.5 points at home and 70.3 away from Firestone Fieldhouse. Malcom Thomas is averaging 14 points and 11.8 rebounds. Bakersfield is struggling on defense, having given up 92 or more points three times.

* Maryland (7-0) at UCLA (3-0), 2 p.m. -- The Bruins are off to their best start since the 1993-94 season. Maryland, ranked No. 3 in the nation in the latest Associated Press poll, defeated host UC Santa Barbara, 75-71, on Friday night. The Terrapins played without two-time All-American Crystal Langhorne, a 6-2 senior post player, who has a sprained ankle.
