A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed as he sat on a porch Thursday, the second shooting in less than a week of a teenager resisting a confrontation with a suspected gang member, authorities said.
Raymond Frias was visiting a female friend in the 2900 block of Poplar Drive near Bellinger Street about 11:45 p.m. Thursday when a male walked up to him and fired a single shot into his upper body, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Derrick Thompson said.
After Frias repeatedly refused to respond to the gunman’s question “Where are you from?” the gunman shot the victim in the back and fled, Thompson said.
Frias was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The female friend was not injured.
No suspects have been arrested, and anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call the Sheriff’s Department homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.
