Voters will decide if eggs are people

A proposed state constitutional amendment defining a fertilized human egg as a person was certified for the November ballot, moving the state a step closer to an election battle over abortion rights.
State officials said backers turned in an estimated 103,000 valid signatures, far more than the 76,000 required.
Opponents say the proposed amendment could affect birth control because hormonal contraception such as the pill might sometimes prevent fertilized eggs from attaching to the uterine wall.
