Man steps into traffic, is killed

A man believed to have been intoxicated was struck by a car and killed after stepping into oncoming traffic in Redondo Beach, police said.
The incident happened Friday at 8:10 p.m. in the 2600 block of Artesia Boulevard. The man, whose identity has not been determined, was pronounced dead at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Witnesses described the man as a local transient, about 55 years old, said Sgt. Phil Keenan of the Redondo Beach Police Department.
The motorist, who appeared to be driving within the 35 mph speed limit, stopped immediately and was not cited.
