CALIFORNIA BRIEFING

A 32-year-old man was hospitalized Monday after he was struck by the driver of an Anaheim Parks and Recreation pickup truck while napping under a tree in Modjeska Park.
The incident occurred about 11:45 a.m. A maintenance worker was driving the pickup and cut across the grass toward a trash can when he “felt something,” said Anaheim spokeswoman Ruth Ruiz.
“He stopped his car and had hit a gentleman who was napping in the shade under one of the trees,” she said.
Ruiz said city investigators were trying to determine whether there was a “visual obstruction” that could have contributed to the accident.
The man, an Anaheim resident, was alert and talking to a police officer while being taken to a hospital. Ruiz said he did not appear to be seriously injured.
