NRG Energy Inc., the No. 2 power producer in Texas, said it would build three solar plants in the Southwest capable of generating as much as 500 megawatts.
NRG will spend about $10 million to get development rights for the plants from Pasadena-based ESolar Inc., according to a statement from the companies.
The first solar-thermal plant is expected to begin production as early as 2011, NRG and ESolar said.
