WEDNESDAY’S RESULT
Fullerton Troy 52, Etiwanda 40
Leading contributors: Senior guard Chrystal Guarin, junior guard Alex Sanchez and senior guard Alysa Ito scored 13 points apiece for host Troy in a Southern Section Division I-AA girls’ quarterfinal. Senior guard Amber Williams scored 21 points for Etiwanda.
The scoop: After Etiwanda cut a 10-point halftime deficit to four after three quarters, Troy regrouped by outscoring the Eagles, 15-7, in the fourth quarter.
Why it matters: After last year’s three-point loss to Santa Margarita in the second round of the playoffs, the Warriors moved one step closer to an appearance in the championship game. Troy, ranked No. 6 in the Southland by The Times, will play No. 4 Long Beach Poly in a semifinal on Saturday. Etiwanda’s streak of advancing to the playoff semifinals ended at six years.
Records: Troy 28-1, Etiwanda 21-8.
