The owner of a firm that registered tens of thousands of voters for the state’s Republican Party pleaded not guilty Monday to voter registration fraud charges.
Investigators alleged that Mark Jacoby, 25, fraudulently registered himself to vote at his childhood California address, where he no longer lives, so that he would appear to meet the legal requirement that all signature gatherers be eligible to vote in California.
Jacoby is the owner of the firm Young Political Majors, which charged $7 to $12 for every Californian it registered for the GOP.
He was arrested last October after an investigation by the secretary of state’s office and was released on bail.
Dozens of voters registered by Jacoby’s firm told The Times last year that they were tricked into registering for the party when workers told them they were signing a petition on toughening penalties against child molesters.
