Gunmen carried out attacks against federal police in at least six cities in drug-plagued Michoacan state, killing five officers.
The Michoacan state public safety department said the gunmen attacked police offices and a hotel where agents were staying. In addition to the five slain, nine policemen were wounded.
The attacks appeared to be coordinated, though officials would not confirm that as an investigation was pending.
